OPP participates in 15th GCC Session for Assistant Attorneys General

Public Prosecution participated in the 15th GCC Online Session for their Excellencies Assistant Attorneys General and Prosecutors General on 2 September 2024.

The session reviewed mechanisms for strengthening cooperation in requests for legal assistance to expedite their implementation and for developing mechanisms and controls for holding interactive seminars. The meeting also reviewed practical experiences provided by prosecuting authorities in preparation for the 16th GCC Session for their Excellencies Attorneys General and Prosecutors General.

In the meeting, the Sultanate of Oman’s delegation was headed by Assistant Attorney General Dr. Ahmed bin Said Al-Shakili.

A delegation from the Public Prosecution, headed by His Excellency the Attorney General, participated in the Fourth Meeting of the Arab Association for Prosecutors, held from 18–19 December 2024 in NEOM, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On the sidelines of the meeting, a workshop titled “Artificial Intelligence and Criminal Justice – The Evidentiary Value of Investigative Procedures” was convened. The workshop featured panel discussions addressing the nature of artificial intelligence, its objectives and applications, as well as the impact of AI and digital transformation on enhancing the efficiency and timeliness of criminal justice. It also examined the evidentiary value of AI in investigative procedures. During the workshop, participating delegations presented their respective national experiences in the application of artificial intelligence. The Public Prosecution of the Sultanate of Oman showcased its achievements in leveraging artificial intelligence in criminal investigations. This included a presentation on the AI-powered “Virtual Crime Scene,” which supports investigators in collecting and analyzing evidence from crime scenes, facilitating evidence correlation and enhancing investigative accuracy. The presentation also highlighted additional AI-driven applications, including a case file analysis system capable of identifying evidentiary gaps, detecting inconsistencies, and recommending optimal legal actions. These tools further support the transcription and translation of testimonies, contributing to improved efficiency and reduced time and effort in investigative processes.

OPP Participates in 16th GCC Meeting for Attorneys General in Qatar

Public Prosecution of the Sultanate of Oman participated in the 16th GCC Meeting for the Attorneys General held in Qatar on 29 October 2024. The Omani delegation was headed by His Excellency, Nasr Khamis Al Sawaii, the Attorney General and included Dr. Ahmed Al-Shekaili, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Badi, Assistant Attorneys General, Mr. Saif Al-Hinai, Senior Public Prosecutor, and Mr. Saif Al-Mamari. The meeting addressed topics of common interest, including reviewing the rules for joint cooperation between GCC prosecution agencies, and the mechanism for promoting mutual legal assistance. The participants highlighted the experience of their countries in various legal field. The Public Prosecution of the Sultanate of Oman highlighted the case central distribution system. At the end of the meeting, an awarding ceremony was held in which Dr. Mahmoud Al-Badi, the Assistant Attorney General received an award of excellence.
